Costa located at the bottom of the Marketplace is now open daily 7am - 7pm, Sundays 9am - 7pm.

Klarneins Cafe - newly opened in October 2021, on the Marketplace, this cafe is located in the old NatWest Bank building.  Delicious coffees, teas, hot chocolates, pastries and scones. Fresh salads and a small selection of sandwiches for lunch - menu changes daily. Dog friendly.

Feast Cafe - Marketplace -  A great deli serving a delicious selection of soups, sandwiches, paninis, cakes and great coffee.  A few tables available for dining in. Dog friendly.

Nosh - 1 Burgate (near the Church steps) - A super little coffee shop serving a selection of delicious home made cakes and treats, breakfast bites, sandwiches and grilled sandwiches. A few outdoor tables.  Dog friendly.

Russells (coffee shop and bakery) in the Marketplace is open 8am-3pm Monday - Saturday.

Willowgate Bistro - This is an extremely popular little restaurant thanks to very well earned top reviews on Trip Advisor!  Restaurant is open Monday - Saturday 5-9pm.  Call 01751 476300 to book your place - limited space available.

White Swan Inn Open daily.  Now taking bookings for breakfast, lunch and dinner on their website or on 01751 472288

The Black Swan - 18 Bridgate, Pickering - the newly renovated restaurant and beer garden is open for dinner reservations Monday, Tuesday, Friday & Saturday.  Call 01751 798209 or see their website to make a booking.

Chico’s Pizzas  (Takeway) Call 01751 476662 or pop across the road from Hungate's black entrance gate. There is no online menu unfortunately but they produce most popular flavours of pizza! Give them a ring for more details.

The Sun Inn - Westgate, Pickering - a short 5 minute stroll from Hungate. Check their Facebook page for updates. This is a proper real ale freehouse, no food is served but you are welcome to bring a picnic or fish and chips and enjoy in the large beer garden, or garden room.

The Black Bull - 5 minute drive along the Malton Road. Good honest pub food with large portions, good prices, children's menu and a beer garden.  Sunday Carvery.

Cedar Barn Farm Shop - (on the outskirts of Pickering on the road to Scarborough) open now 7 days.  Indoor tables available, or 'Graze in the Garden' Cafe Open for takeaway, or to enjoy on the terrace or lawn. See their website or Facebook page for menu details. Brunch served until 11.45am or light lunches until 4pm (3pm Sunday).

A little further afield:

The Fox & Hounds, Sinnington (a 10 minute drive from Hungate) - we love this traditional pub for delicous food and a lovey atmosphere. Although the menu isn't very child friendly in our experience. Open for cosy indoor dining .  They also have a new relaxed outside (heated) terrace dining area.  Email well in advance to book your table:  reservations@foxandhoundsinn.net,  or call 01751 431577.

The Fox & Rabbit, Lockton, just off the Whitby Road A169 (10 minute drive from Hungate)  - open daily, ring 01751 460213 to book a table.  Serving Sunday lunch and a traditional menu.

The Horseshoe Inn, Levisham (sister pub to The Fox & Rabbit above!) is open daily.  We love the peaceful location of this pub, set at the far end of Levisham village, with outside picnic table seating on the grass in front providing a great resting place for a pint after a stomp on the moors!  Named one of Britain's 30 Cosiest Pubs by the Telepgraph.  Serving a traditional pub menu and local beer.

The Purple Carrot  - Malton - Vegetarian/Vegan Cafe is currently open for Take Away, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10am-3pm.  See their Facebook page for menu and details.

Black Swan Oldstead Michelin Star restaurant on the edge of the Moors between Helmsley and Thirsk.

The Star Inn - Harome, near Helmsley - highly acclaimed award winning cuisine.  Reservations taken for both garden tables and inside the restaurant - advance booking essential either on their website or by telephone.  *The Star Inn is sadly currently closed as a result of a major fire.  We will update on the refurbishment in due course.

 

Local Attractions

North Yorkshire Moors RailwayTickets are now available to book on their website.  A limited service is operating to allow for social distancing.  Advanced booking essential.

Dalby Forest (walks and cycling) is open  (see their website for details) - Hungate guests receive a free multi-entry car pass to visit as many times as they wish during their stay.  There is a Visitor Centre with toilet facilities and a good cafe next to main car park.  Children's Play Area is also located here.  Dalby Forest Cycle Hub is now open for bicycle hire from 9.30am-4pm Tuesday to Sunday in the Low Dalby Courtyard.

Go Ape Treetop Adventure and Forest Segway Adventures at Dalby Forest are now taking bookings online. See the Go Ape website for details.

Ryedale Folk Museum - Open daily (except Fridays) from March until 13th November 2022, 10am-5pm, then closed for the Winter.  This museum is mostly open air and a lovely way to spend a day.  Located in the beautiful village of Hutton-le-Hole on the edge of the Moors, a 20 minute drive from Hungate.

Castle Howard grounds, gardens, garden centre and farm shop are open daily.  For the grounds and gardens, tickets must be pre-booked online.  Skelf Island Adventure Playground and the adjoining children's play area will keep the younger ones occupied for a good amount of time! There is a cafe located here in addition to a larger cafe / restaurant adjoining the main house.  See their website for more info and to book tickets. The House remains closed for now.

Flamingoland theme park and zoo now open daily 10am - 5pm - see their website to pre-book tickets.

Sutton Bank  walking / cycling / beautiful views (30 minute drive from Hungate).  The information centre and gift shop is open 10am - 5pm. The independent Park Life Cafe is open for light meals, coffees and snacks.  This is a beautiful spot, known as one of the "finest views in England" - and also home to the Yorkshire Gliding Club.  Many trails to explore on foot, and a selection of cycle trails for all levels and abilities.  The visitor centre can provide maps.  Sutton Bank Bikes cycle hire is now open 10am-5pm, every day except Tuesday and Wednesday.  Call ahead to reserve your bikes, as this is a very busy time for them. York Minster is open for sightseeing visits.  Pre-book an arrival slot on www.yorkminster.org

Sledmere House grounds, gardens and rare breed farm park are open Tuesday-Sunday (closed Monday). Half day tickets must be pre-booked online.

Riveaulx Abbey is currently open daily 10am - 5pm.  Last admission 430pm.  Prebook tickets online.  If you're an English Heritage member you won't be charged but you must still book in advance.  Cafe open for takeaway, all other indoor areas are closed and visitor numbers are limited. Riveaulx Terrace is currently closed.

Beningbrough Hall - Now fully open including the Hall, gardens and parkland. You can book your timed entry in advance on their website but pre-booking is not required.  National Trust Members can book for free, non-members will need to pay when booking.

Pickering Castle & Scarborough Castle now open daily 10am - 5pm.  Book your timed tickets in advance on their website.  English Heritage members can book for free, non-members will need to pay when booking.

Helmsley Castle is open Tuesday - Sunday, pre book your timed entry on their website.

National Centre for Birds of Prey at Duncombe Park Nature Reserve - Helmsley - open 7 days a week, no need to pre book your tickets.  It's a really lovely day out to combine with a visit to Helmsley. Explore 40 aviaries and enjoy multiple flying demos during the day.  Admission to the centre also gives entry to the 300 acres of parkland and 2 marked walking trails which around the grounds of Duncombe Park, great for dog walking.

Sewerby Hall Gardens - The house, zoo, gardens and play area are now open.  Pre-book your tickets on their website.
