Here’s our list of top attractions on our doorstep or a short drive away. This Spring and Summer 2025 there is so much to see and do- we really are on the doorstep of Yorkshire’s Finest Sights!

North Yorkshire Moors vintage steam train makes its way through the moors
- North Yorkshire Moors Railway – this iconic railway is a short walk from our doorstep – board a heritage locomotive at nearby Pickering station and journey across the Moors to the seaside at Whitby. Opening for the season at the end of March.
- Matthewsons Classic Cars – made famous by TV series Bangers and Cash – visit this famous auction room in Pickering and browse the latest selection of classic cars (see their website for opening times) or their gift shop in nearby Thornton le Dale.
- Dalby Forest – The Great Yorkshire Forest – Dalby is a short 20 minute drive away and Hungate guests receive one free multi-entry car pass per cottage *for arrivals up to December 31, 2025. Enjoy stunning scenery and the beauty of the great outdoors with a selection of trails for hiking, walking or downhill mountain biking.
- Beck Isle Museum – our favourite local museum, walking distance from our doorstep – travel back in time and explore a selection of period business displays such as a barber, a chemist, a blacksmith and a hardware store. Bring a picnic to enjoy next to Pickering Beck, and the museum is dog friendly too. Opening for the season at the end of March.
- Ryedale Folk Museum – another favourite of our regular guests – this fabulous open air history museum is located in the pretty moorland village of Hutton le Hole about 30 mins drive away. Explore a large collection of exhibits and reconstructed buildings including an Iron Age Roundhouse, and a Medieval Manor House. Dog friendly too.
